MEET DR. LEHMAN-GRIMES“Dr. Shawn,” as his patients call him, moved back to North Middle Tennessee after completing his orthodontic training in 2005. He took over the practice from his father, Dr. Marlin Grimes, who served the Robertson and Montgomery County community for 30 years. Continuing and improving upon the family legacy, Dr. Shawn strives to provide the most detailed oriented treatment to his patients in an inviting and comfortable office atmosphere. Dr. Shawn was born in Clarksville and started his academic career by graduating from Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville. From there, Dr. Shawn attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he focused on both a pre-med curriculum and art curriculum. After earning a B.A. in Art history, Dr. Shawn graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Dental College. Dr. Shawn distinguished himself in Dental school with multiple awards and recognitions including: Dental School Award of Excellence 2001, 2002, and the Doris Costello Bowyer Memorial Leadership Award, just to name a few. Along with academic achievements, Dr. Shawn served the dental community as student president of the University of Tennessee Dental College, and student Vice President of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) where he dealt with numerous political figures (Harold Ford Jr., Ac Warton) and issues such as state funding in higher education and the patients bill of rights. Dr. Shawn stayed in Memphis at UTHSC to receive his M.D.S. degree and orthodontic training. His clinical training resulted in his earning his orthodontic degree, while his research culminated in his thesis: Temporomandibular Disorder and Analysis of Mandibular Motion. After more than a decade of higher education, Dr. Shawn decided to return back home and continue the family legacy. Dr. Shawn has kept a sharp focus on helping his profession by staying very active in dental politics. Dr. Shawn currently serves as Director for Middle Tennessee for the Tennessee Association of Orthodontists and has been newly appointed as one of ten orthodontists in the United States to the Council on Insurance( COI) for the American Association of Orthodontists. His 4 year term on the COI committee will begin in 2012. Dr. Shawn continues his support in the community by sponsoring numerous youth sports leagues, speaking at local schools on the importance of good oral hygiene, and participating in fundraising endeavors. Dr. Shawn and his wife live at Pebble Brook Golf Course with their dog. In his free time, Dr. Shawn enjoys golfing, flying, UT football, the Nashville Predators, and the San Diego Chargers!
